Slowly, the sound of crying rises, as if the person is deliberately crying in a melodic way. However, from the tone, you can tell that the person has been crying for so long that they are exhausted. Unable to bear it, I entered the well-furnished house, equipped with all the amenities for a comfortable and enjoyable life. It was a large living room, but despite its size, I didn’t see anyone in it. I paused, thinking, "So where is the sound of the crying that caught my attention coming from?" With no one to answer, I started looking around the living room. It wasn’t coming from there, so I ventured further in, convinced the crying was coming from one of the rooms.
The sound of someone descending the beautifully decorated stairs caught my attention. A stunning, regal woman with the elegance of Nigerian Fulani was walking gracefully, her attire enhancing her dignified appearance. I didn’t expect her to speak Hausa, but to my surprise, I heard her calling out sternly, "Anam!" Her voice grew harsher when there was no sign of the person she was calling, Anam.
"Anam! If I have to come to where you are, you can be sure your body will ache before you leave this country. Only a fool with no self-respect would deny their roots. If you make me angry, I swear, you’ll go to Nigeria to stay, and if you upset me, you'll stay there forever with the country wandering."
The intensified crying made me turn quickly. A strikingly beautiful young woman, a black beauty who didn’t resemble the older woman physically except for some slight family resemblance, was there. She looked around seventeen years old by my estimate. However, knowing how people with her body type often hide their age, I couldn’t be certain. She was petite and short, like a younger sister of mine (😂🤣 just saying). Despite her crying, which made her eyes appear swollen, they still shone brightly behind her thin glasses. Her long eyelashes and elegant nose (like Bilyn Abdull🙄—someone might disagree, but don’t be jealous 😒😜) made her quite the beauty. Tears streamed down her cheeks like an open faucet. The woman scolding her gave her a harsh look and said sharply,
"Swallow those tears before I come over there and deal with you, foolish girl."
With difficulty, she tried to stop crying, but the tears kept flowing. In a shaky voice, she looked at the older woman and pleaded, "Mamie, I’m sorry, I promise I’ll stop doing everything you and Abie disapprove of."
